Prayers and Their Indulgences

 * Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost Amen.
(An indulgence of 3 years; with holy water, 7 years)

 * Our Father
Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

 * Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

 * Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

 * Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

 * Confiteor
I confess to Almighty God, to blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Michael, the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and to all the saints, and to you, father, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed,
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault.
Therefore, I beseech blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the saints, and you father, to pray to the Lord our God for me.
V. May Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you your sins, and bring you to life everlasting.
R. Amen.

 * Act of Faith
O my God, I firmly believe that Thou art one God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; I believe that Thy Divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast revealed them, who canst neither deceive nor be deceived. (3 years)

 * Act of Hope
O my God, relying on Thy almighty power and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain the pardon of my sins, the help of Thy grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. (3 years)

 * Act of Charity
O my God, I love Thee above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because Thou art all good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of Thee. I forgive all who have injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. (3 years)

 * Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving all of my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen. (3 years)

 * Morning Offering
O my God, I offer Thee all my prayers, works, and sufferings in union with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, for the intentions for which he pleads and offers Himself in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in thanksgiving for Thy favors, in reparation for my offenses, and in humble supplication for my temporal and eternal welfare, for the wants of our holy Mother the Church, for the conversion of sinners, and for the relief of the poor souls in purgatory. I wish to gain all the indulgences attached to the prayers I shall say and to the good works I shall perform this day.

 * Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
LET US PRAY
O God, who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
(Indulgence of five years. Plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, provided the prayer is recited daily for a month.)

 * INDULGENCES

 * Granted to those who devote themselves to teaching or learning Christian Doctrine.

 * A PLENARY INDULGENCE to all the Faithful who shall for approximately one-half hour or not for less than twenty minutes devote themselves at least twice a month to teaching or learning Christian Doctrine. The Indulgence can be gained twice during the same month on days they may choose, provided they, being truly penitent, have gone to Confession and Holy Communion and have visited some church or public oratory and there prayed for the intention of the Roman Pontiff.

 * A PARTIAL INDULGENCE of 3 years to these same members of the Faithful as often as they devote themselves for the above-mentioned space of time to teaching or learning Christian Doctrine. (S.P. Ap., May 26, 1949).

 * Angelus
V. The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary
R. And she conceived of the Holy Ghost.
Hail Mary, etc.
V. Behold the handmaiden of the Lord.
R. Be it done to me according to thy word.
Hail Mary, etc.
V. And the Word was made flesh.
R. And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary, etc.
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray.
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His passion and cross to brought to the Glory of His resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
(10 years each time, if recited at dawn, at noon and in the evening, or as soon thereafter as possible.)

 * Regina Caeli
(Said during Eastertide, instead of the Angelus)
Queen of heaven, rejoice, Alleluia.
For He whom thou didst deserve to bear, Alleluia.
Hath risen as He said, Alleluia.
Pray for us to God, Alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia.
R. For the Lord is truly risen, Alleluia.
Let us pray.
O God, Who, by the resurrection of Thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, hast vouchsafed to give joy to the whole world; grant, we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may attain the joys of eternal life. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
(At Eastertide, same indulgences as for the Angelus)

 * Hail Holy Queen
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
(5 years)

 * Prayer to St. Michael
Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
(3 years)

 * Prayer to St. Joseph
To thee, O blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our affliction, and having implored the help of thy thrice holy Spouse, we now, with hearts filled with confidence, earnestly beg thee also to take us under thy protection. By that charity wherewith thou wert united to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly love with which thou didst cherish the Child Jesus, we beseech thee and we humbly pray that thou wilt look down with gracious eye upon that inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased by His blood, and wilt succor us in our need by thy power and strength.
Defend, O most watchful guardian of the holy Family, the chosen offspring of Jesus Christ. Keep from us, O most loving Father, all blight of error and corruption. Aid us from on high, most valiant defender, in this conflict with the powers of darkness. And even as of old thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the peril of His life, so now defend God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity. Shield us ever under thy patronage, that, following thine example and strengthened by thy help, we may live a holy life, die a happy death, and attain to everlasting bliss in heaven. Amen.

 * Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds, hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malicious enemy, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me.
And bid me come to Thee;
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee, Forever and ever. Amen.
(300 days, 7 years if said after Holy Communion)

 * Prayer Before a Crucifix
Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus,
while before Thy face I humbly kneel,
and with burning soul I pray and beseech Thee to fix deep in my heart
lively sentiments of faith, hope, and charity,
true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment;
while with deep affection and grief of soul
I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate
Thy five most precious wounds, having before my eyes
the words which David the prophet put on Thy lips concerning Thee,
O good Jesus:
"They have pierced My hands and My feet,
they have numbered all My bones."
(10 years if said before an image of Christ crucified)

 * Prayer Before a Crucifix (from St Joseph's Missal)
BEHOLD, O kind and most sweet Jesus,
I cast myself upon my knees in Thy sight,
and with the most fervent desire of my soul,
I pray and beseech Thee,
that Thou wouldst impress upon my heart,
lively sentiments of Faith, Hope, and Charity,
with true repentance for my sins,
and a firm desire of amendment,
whilest with deep affection and grief of soul,
I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate,
Thy five most precious wounds: havng before my eyes,

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom His love commits me here,
Even this day be at my side, To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

 * Prayer of St. Ignatius
Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my whole will. All that I am and all that I possess Thou hast given me; I surrender it all to Thee to be disposed of according to Thy holy will. Give me only Thy love and Thy grace; with these I will be rich enough and desire nothing more. (3 years)

 * Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To Thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen. (3 years)
